PhD-Student Position (m/f/d)
“Methodological Framework for Sensor Integration in Additive Manufacturing”
ADMiRE is the Research Center for Additive Manufacturing, Intelligent Robotics, and Embedded Sensors at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. We focus on developing practical, sustainable, and application-driven solutions in 3D printing and robotics. Our work emphasizes real-world impact, promotes environmental responsibility, and thrives on close collaboration with industry partners and society.
The PhD candidate will work in Villach (CUAS) with the ADMiRE Research Center.
The person will be under supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Hubert Zangl, Professor at Universität Klagenfurt & Dr. Claude Humbert, ADMiRE Research Centre.
Responsibilities:
- Identification of sensor integration solutions for various families of technologies and materials
- Deployment of plug and play demonstrators (design, print, assembly, sensor interfacing…)
- Validation of those solutions with their implementation applied on specific use cases
- Experience capitalization with the development of classified methods for sensor integration in 3D printing
- Publications in high impact journals, participation to international conferences
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including materials science, metrology and sensor research
- Contribution to research grant applications and industry collaborations
Your Profile
Master’s degree in Electronics, Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Strong programming skills (Python), G-code as a plus
Background in CAD and FEM simulation (Inventor/Fusion, ANSYS)
Experience with additive manufacturing and sensors interfacing
Fluency in English (minimum B2 level, w/s); German is a plus
High motivation, independent and structured working style, with strong teamwork and communication skills
We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate to contribute to the FFG-funded research project ESMA, particularly in the field of function integration in 3D printed structures. This work aims to develop a series of methods to make 3D printed structures smarter. The challenge lies in equipping various families of 3D-printed parts with sensing capabilities tailored to specific use cases.
