“Advanced Multi-Axis 3D Printing Algorithm Development and Integration”
ADMiRE is the Research Center for Additive Manufacturing, Intelligent Robotics, and Embedded Sensors at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. We focus on developing practical, sustainable, and application-driven solutions in 3D printing and robotics. Our work emphasizes real-world impact, promotes environmental responsibility, and thrives on close collaboration with industry partners and society.
The PhD candidate will work in Villach (CUAS) with the ADMiRE Research Center.
The candidate will be under supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Andreas Müller, Professor at Johannes Kepler Uni-versity, Institute of Robotics & FH-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. techn. Mathias Brandstötter, Head of ADMiRE Research Centre.
Responsibilities:
- Development of classification systems for printable object geometries
- Design and implementation of toolpath generation algorithms for multi-axis robotic 3D printing
- Creation of a spiralizer design system for continuous and optimized printing paths
- Development of obstacle avoidance strategies for complex printing environments
- Integration of developed algorithms into user-friendly software platforms
- Execution of offline testing and validation of integrated systems
- Design and prototyping of functional demonstrators across various application areas
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including materials science and sensor research
- Contribution to research grant applications and industry collaborations
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong programming skills (Python and/or C++; experience with Rhino/Grasshopper is a plus)
- Background in robot kinematics, motion planning, and/or 3D printing processes
- Solid knowledge of mathematics, especially linear algebra
- Experience with additive manufacturing, simulation environments, or toolpath generation is advantageous
- Fluency in English (minimum B2 level, w/s); German is a plus
- High motivation, independent and structured working style, with strong teamwork and communication skills
