The Interdisciplinary Centre for Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity (ICEB) is a newly established research center at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), dedicated to advancing the understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Our mission is to measure and analyze the interactions between society and ecosystems through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. By providing evidence-based insights, we support decisions that foster sustainable development.
Sciences Communications and Outreach Officer (m/f/d)
Job profile and tasks
As a Science Communications and Outreach Officer, your role is to provide and support high-quality science communication and outreach efforts. This includes both internal communication within the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and external communication to diverse audiences, contributing to the ICEB mission of “Making Biodiversity Matter.”
Supporting the teams in effectively communicating research results to diverse audiences in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Contributing to the ICEB’s mission by organizing interactive outreach activities and facilitating connections within the center.
- Coordinating ICEB’s activities with key partners and relevant committees.
- Conducting standard ICEB communication, including managing the homepage, LinkedIn, and press relations.
- Producing key PR materials aligned with the annual communication plan.
- Building and enhancing personal networks with key partners, clients, and media.
Required competencies and qualifications
A scientifically grounded communication talent, capable of conveying complex scientific results in a clear, engaging,
and audience-appropriate manner.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field, with a focus on ecology, biodiversity research, or biodiversity technologies; alternatively, a master’s degree in media communication, journalism, or a similar field, with proven knowledge of and passion for life sciences and science communication.
- Proven experience and ability in communicating scientific content through various formats and media channels.
- Proven experience and ability in scientific writing and scientific publishing
- Proficiency and experience in social media platforms (LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Instagram), podcast and video production, press work, event design, merchandising, exhibitions, etc.
- Strong IT skills and excellent English proficiency, further languages required.
- Highly team-oriented with a precise, reliable work ethic and the ability to inspire different audiences with scientific results.

- Scope of employment: 20 hours per week
- A 50% position with flexible working hours; position can be supplemented with an additional 50% through project-financed research activities.
- Contract duration: initially limited to 1 year; long-term development potential is planned, but depends on projects
- Place of employment: Campus Villach, Europastrasse 4, 9524 Villach
- Minimum salary: € 2,990 gross per month (for 100 % employment, 14 salaries)

The I.C.E.B. is located at the CUAS Campus in Villach, where we are also significantly investing in new stateof-the-art R&D infrastructure facilitating modern ecosystem services and biodiversity research, including field labs, mobile research facilities, and stationary laboratories.
